Re: What impacts Ecell for concentration cells

Hey Nicole, Using the Nernst equation would really help in understanding what these changes would do. Also since a concentration cell by definition has an E naught equal to 0, I'm writing a simplified version without E naught. E=-\frac{RT}{nF}lnQ I'm also gonna use Ag+ as an example, so I've writte...

If you haven't already spent a little bit of time studying/reviewing each day this past week, I would recommend doing as many textbook problems as you can on Saturday. Do every other problem assigned in the outlines, and if you have time left over, do the rest. Good luck!

You need a 50% (200/400) to pass with a C-, however, if you're doing P/NP grading, keep in mind that a C- is considered a no pass, so you'll need to get at least a 73% for a C in this class to get a pass.

Re: Positive Encouragement for Midterm Week

What should we use to study/review? I remember a lot of people said the textbook really helped on the last midterm but I'm not sure. Watch the lectures or review your notes from lecture, do the practice problems from the textbook, do the Sapling homework, and use the UA worksheets for even more pra...

I too am a bit confused whether or not to focus on oxidation numbers. I practiced them however just in case, but during Justin's UA workshop on Saturday, he said that Lavelle will likely not ask about oxidation numbers.

Re: Question for Students about High School Chem

I also did not take AP chem, and the only chem class I took was during my sophomore year (definitely did not retain all of that material since then), so I totally relate. Whenever I don't quite understand a concept or topic, I watch youtube videos (especially the organic chemistry tutor) and attend ...

I'm definitely feeling the same way. I plan on just studying more and dedicating more time to this class to do really well on the next midterm and final. Maybe altering your studying methods and adjusting how much time you spend on the class material might help make a difference on your next midterm...

Re: Studying From Home

I get distracted really easily, whether that be because of my phone or family, and so I make sure to always work in my room at my desk where it's the quietest for me. Using a timer for studying and homework definitely helps, as it gives me a little pressure to finish my task in time and it keeps me ...

On the test instructions, it says that higher point questions (the 12 point ones I’m assuming) will have partial credit for some incorrect answers.

Re: De Broglie Equation Problem

You set emitted electron energy=1/2mv^2 to solve for v. Then you use DeBroglies. I got a slightly diff Ek though...make sure you converted eV to J correctly and subtracted work from photon energy Thank you! That makes a lot more sense. Yes, I made a mistake and I got 6.36 x 10^-17 as my Ek (hopeful...

De Broglie Equation Problem

Imagine a high energy photon of energy 4.00 x 10^2 eV, shines upon a metal with a work function of 2.90 eV. Will an electron be emitted from the surface of the metal? If so, what is the speed of the emitted electron? So I first used E(photon) - work function = Ek to get 6.45 x 10^-17 J. Then I know ...

Re: Frequency and energy

Yes, as the frequency of light increases, the energy of light also increases. This is shown through a positive correlation on the electromagnetic spectrum, where gamma rays have a higher frequency compared to radio waves. The energy of a photon is proportional to its frequency with the constant h.

I believe so, but the fundamental questions from our textbook are supposed to be the most similar to questions on our exams and midterms from what I've been told.

Re: Sapling Homework Week 1 Q10

Hey Jalyn! So you are on the right track with converting to the moles of the 2-butanone. You use the mole ratio of 2-butanone to 3-methyl-3-hexanone and the molar mass of the product, which is C7H16O, to obtain the grams of your product. This will give you your theoretical yield. Divide the given a...

Like everyone else has stated, it's not required of you to take notes from the textbook readings. Unless there is an explanation or example from the text...
