Roman numerals
Hi guys! I'm just a little confused on how to determine what Roman numeral to use when naming coordination compounds. If someone could help explain it to me it would be very much appreciated!
Re: Prefixes
I have in my notes from lecture that we need to know mono-, di-, tri-, tetra-, penta- and hexa-, and when the ligand has a name beginning with di-, tri-, tetra-, or is a polydentate, then we use bis-, tris-, tetrakis-, and pentakis-! I'm pretty sure these are the only ones we'll have to know because...

Re: Detrmining Shape from coordination numbers
From my understanding, the coordination numbers are soft of representative of how many bonds there are (but make sure to only count those that are in the brackets). Based on the number of bonds that we've recognized, we can determine the most likely geometry from that! Hope this helped!

When using the Rydberg equation, n2 is always the initial value/starting point, and n1 is where the ending point is. In this question, n2 would be equal to 4 and n1 would be equal to 2, so the denominators would be (1/2^2)/(1/4^2).
