To calculate ∆S, you use the equation ∆S=-∆Hsys/T. The Sapling prompt should give you a value for ∆H, and you just divide this by the temperature given in Kelvin.

Re: I in ICE Chart

To add on to the post above, when there is an initial concentration of the products, the initial concentration of the reactants will be zero (and vice versa).

Re: Le Chatelier's Principle

Le Chatelier's Principle states that chemical reactions adjust to minimize the effects of any changes. I believe applying Le Chatelier's Principle to changing temperature means that if a reaction requires heat (endothermic) while forming products, then heating the reaction will favor product formati...

Re: Midterm: Question points

The syllabus does not mention the number of points per question on exams, but since there are less points available in the class, and the midterms are still each 50 minutes (the same as 14A), I would assume that the number of points each question is worth would be less.

The first part looks correct, however, you cubed 1.75 instead of squaring it. It should be squared because in the balanced equation, NH3 has a stoichiometric coefficient of 2!

Definitely, this exam had very little time for the amount and type of questions. Many students either didn't finish or rushed through half of it. Both the mathematical questions and the content questions do rely on more thinking than a usual simpler question on the midterms. Being a bad test taker ...

Yeah! So basically, since this is a coordination compound and coordination compounds have a neutral charge, you need to use information both inside and outside of the brackets in order to ensure that the overall charge of the compound in zero! Since Cl has a -1 charge, make sure that the overall cha...

Re: Sapling 9 Q1 Oxidation Number and Prefixes

Hi! Yes, you do take the Cl2 into account when determining the oxidation number of the metal. This is how I determined the oxidation state of cobalt: first, Cl has a -1 charge, so the two chlorines outside of the brackets will equal a -2 charge. Since coordination compounds are neutral, [Co(NH3)5Cl]...

I am not sure as to why we name it after, but I know this is a rule when naming coordination compounds. Anything outside of the brackets is named as a separate word, at the end.
