Re: How to relax after midterms
Personally, I take a day or two completely off from school (usually the weekend) where I just sit and do nothing but sleep in and watch shows. Eating some good food always helps.

Re: Constants/Equations Sheet
As of what we know right now, I believe the periodic table is all we get. The periodic trends and other rules are concepts that we are being tested on.

Re: grade worries
I try not to constantly worry about my grades as it stresses me out, but obviously I can't just avoid it and find myself worrying about them a lot. It helps me to just take the course one step at a time, thinking that one test grade won't kill my grade, there's still more to come.

I also agree, it would be great if they could could have two cameras perhaps that they can easily switch, as I find that the time it takes to refocus often distracts from the lecture content and occasionally misses a detail. I am very appreciative of what they are doing though, it's very refreshing ...

Re: Question for Students about High School Chem
I took chem my junior year and do recognize most of the material, besides the more in-depth stuff relating to electrons in photoelectric effect. It's still super helpful that Dr. Lavelle reviews everything from the start/fundamentally.

I also noticed that my other classes had the option for subtitles. Maybe this class uses a different formatted video or something, but it would be super helpful if we could get Dr. Lavelle to add them.

I would just stick to what Lavelle has taught/gone over in his lectures, so it's probably safe to say he won't be testing on nomenclature.

Re: Formation of Ions
I believe it has to do with the amounts of protons and electrons being added to the atom as you get to the d-block. Before electrons are added in the d-block, the 4s orbital is a lower energy than the 3d orbital, and that is why electrons are added to it first. But as electrons start to be added to ...

I believe that after atomic #20, 4s would be written after 3d, but for K and Ca, 4s is filled first.

Just to add on, you're basically counting the number of electrons present in the excited state, and the number of electrons should match the atomic number of the ground state element.

If we know the value of h/Planck's constant as 6.626 x 10^-34 J*s and the value of pi rounded as 3.14, why is h/4pi always written if it is a constant?

Electrons emitting photons
Do electrons emit multiple photons when coming down from a higher energy level to the ground state, or only one photon per electron? And if it's multiple, is there a limit to the number of photons emitted?

Hey Sami, thanks for your reply and the article, it's a good one to come back to. Still trying to see how this information works with the basics physics info that materials abso...
