I would recommend starting by first arranging the reactions given in a way that will leave you with N2O5, dinitrogen pentoxide. To do this, we have to multiply 2 NO(g) + O2(g) --> 2 NO2(g) H°= -114.1 kJ by 2 so that the NO2 (g) will cancel. This leaves us with 4 NO(g) + 2O2(g) --> 4 NO2(g) H°= 4(-1...

Re: Bond Length
Shorter bond lengths mean that the bond is much stronger because it's harder to break and its less reactive. Longer bond lengths are much weaker and are easily broken. Longer bond lengths are due to the atomic radius of a specific atom. For example, when comparing an H-F bond with a H-I bond, Iodine...

I think the best we could do is go to TA office hours for clarification with midterm 1 questions.

In the email the professor sent out regarded Midterm 1 he said that it was an easy start to the quarter so I'm assuming the second exam is going to be a bit harder.

Honestly not doing as well as I would have hoped especially on the last midterm. The online format makes focusing really difficult and I have much less motivation than I did before. Miss being in class on campus :(

Re: midterm
I don't believe there is going to be a separate session to review the midterm other than stopping by your TAs office hours. My TA said if you click on the midterm on CCLE it should show correct answers and the solutions.

Sapling #4
HI! I was able to do the first part of this question by finding the work function but I can't seem to figure out the second question: "A metal was exposed to photons at a frequency of 1.11x10^-15 s^-1, electrons were emitted with a maximum kinetic energy of 3.60x10^-19 J. Calculate the work fun...

Re: Midterm scratch work
I'm assuming you would just have to show your TA both sides of your extra scratch paper to make sure its blank. There will be no partial credit since the format of the exam is going to be shorter questions instead of having multiple parts to each question to accommodate for partial credit.

Re: Textbook Questions and Midterm
Dr. Lavelle stated in the email he sent out that the midterm covers up until 1D.2 in the textbook, so I'm assuming either just the first question or couple of questions since most of the problems go beyond what we are responsible for.

This is also given on the constants and equations sheet on the class website (which I'm also assuming will be given to us on the exam so we wouldn't have to memorize this specific conversion).

I don't really see how they can give partial credit for the exams so I'm also assuming that it's going to be multiple choice! I'm not sure if they are going to give fill-ins for the exams.

Re: Using Mass of Elements when Calculating Molar Mass
On some of the Sapling homework problems I got some of them wrong because they used more precise rounding, so I'm hoping that won't be an issue in future exams. Just to be safe I've been using all of the decimal places just so I can avoid this problem, except for common elements used in problems lik...

Hi! Here is what I found on the class website: It says that exams will be TA proctored to assist us with any questions we may have and that the professor doesn't directly get involved with the exam proctoring. That's all the information about the midterms that is currently available to us though :( ...
