Okay so I am just wondering why there are about 930 spots for chem 14A this quarter (fall 2020) and there are only roughly 705 for next quarter (winter 2021). What about the other 230 students? Im a sophomore and I really need the class and now im sad :( I was on the brink of tears watching this cla...

Re: Induced Dipole-Induced Dipole Interaction and Boiling Point

In short, when the bond interaction strength increases, so does the boiling point. In addition if the amount of bond interactions is high, such as van der waals with a rod shaped molecule instead of a spherical one, the boiling point will be higher as well

Electron affinity is the measurement of how attracted it another electron. Also known as how likely it is to gain electrons to complete its octet. An important trend to realize is that it increases as you go to the right and up the periodic table.

Re: Differences in Bond Length

The bonds get shorter due to the fact that they are pulled in closer. Double bonds have more electrons and are pulled in more tightly. Using this, you would know that triple bonds are shorter than double bonds and double bonds are shorter than single bonds.

Filling the d sub orbitals first gives it a lower energy level. And electrons want to be in the lowest energy state because that is when they are most stable, therefore they fill those sub orbitals before the s.
