It is possible to study for the final in one day?
I work full time so I don't have much time to study. I am panicking because im super bad at chem even though it is the class I work the hardest for. I was wondering if anybody has any advice and study tips? I will be spending all day of saturday studying.

I work 30 hours a week, tuesday, wednesday and friday from 9am-7pm. I try dedicate 3 full days to catching up on lecture and assignments and then one day to relax.

The chem 14A final completely threw me. I remember I got 100% on midterm 1 and 92 on midterm two and the final I got like a D-. I would say expect the final to be way harder. attend more sessions and redo the questions again.

Download "Atkins" into your computer. it has all of the solutions. keep in mind some of them have errors, for the ones with errors i believe professor sent an email with the corrections, or it is on the class website.

Hi! I had lavelle for 14A, 50% of points is a C or C- I believe and then just calculate the rest out of total points to get the percent or letter grade you are looking for.

Lavelle usually does not curve since the exam scores are typically high. Last quarter he did add 10 points to the final exam for everyone though!

Because NH3 is a product, it gains 0.2 so it becomes 0.2+x, not 0.2-x. NH4HS is a solid so it is left out of the equation for K. Hope this helps.

Im taking 20 units this quarter and I have found it super useful to take breaks between recorded lectures and assignments. For example, I will do 50 mins of work and then 10 mins of free time. After 4 hours, I get 30 mins -1hr of free time

I usually think of using ice when the problem gives you an initial concentration and ask you to determine the final concentration at equilibrium. Hope this helps.

Q is at any time and they are calculated the same exact way. You would measure Q at that moment to determine the direction of the reaction. if Q=K then the reaction is at equilibrium If Q<K, the reaction is going right and it favors products If Q>K, the reaction is going left and it favors reactants

Dr. Lavelle often starts small and builds up on topics whether you remember them or not! he does not make the assumption that all students have learned the material (even though most of us were in his class) rather than he takes his time to reintroduce it. Don't be too worried about reviewing.

As said above, I believe C is wrong. There is a reaction, however there is Not net reaction because the forward and reverse reaction occur at the same rate.

I review all of the outlines and read the textbook. I found that lecture and sapling homework is not enough for me to remember the content, so I read the textbook and take some notes. In addition, I practice the study problems and go one at least one stepup sessiona week.

Relax and breathe before taking the exam. Sit at your desk a little earlier than the final time so that you can mentally prepare yourself. I like to mentally tell myself "I can do this, imma get an A" lol it seems to kinda work.

In short, when the bond interaction strength increases, so does the boiling point. In addition if the amount of bond interactions is high, such as van der waals with a rod shaped molecule instead of a spherical one, the boiling point will be higher as well

I've been stressed too, just remember to have a growth mindset and mentally prepare yourself when taking an exam. I found that this works when I feel like im unprepared even though I've studied and done everything that I needed to. Trust the process :)

I've heard that chem 14bl is an overwhelming amount of work and it would be better to take it separate from chem 14b. If you're unsure there are also bruinwalk reviews on what other students chose to take. Keep in mind the reviews may be precovid and online classes.

Re: Differences in Bond Length
The bonds get shorter due to the fact that they are pulled in closer. Double bonds have more electrons and are pulled in more tightly. Using this, you would know that triple bonds are shorter than double bonds and double bonds are shorter than single bonds.

Filling the d sub orbitals first gives it a lower energy level. And electrons want to be in the lowest energy state because that is when they are most stable, therefore they fill those sub orbitals before the s.

Sides does not matter as long as you have the correct number of electrons. I always try to make the lewis structure as symmetrical as possible

As stated before, reading the textbook is not required, but may help develop an indepth understanding of the topics. If you dont want to read the book I would recommend skimming it or referring back to it if you get confused!
