I don't think there is a specific order you need to go in! I was told to balance H's and O's first in HS, and that has helped me out, and hopefully that can help you out too. :)

Memorizing the Different Shapes
We do not have much names of the molecular shapes and bond structure to memorize for Midterm 2! But once we start learning more VSEPR shapes, would we be expected to memorize all the names and bond angles of the shapes?

Yes the excess energy is still classified as kinetic energy. If the work function is less than the energy of a photon, then the 'excess' kinetic energy of the electron will result as the difference. Since electrons have mass, this energy would be kinetic. Thank you! This was a good explanation that...

Re: Empirical Formula - Whole Number Ratio
I do not think that there is a cutoff for rounding, especially since the numbers just tend to be very close to round. There would be "cutoffs" for when we should round, such as having _.33 and then multiplying by 3 to get the closest number.

When that happens, try to multiply it to get the lowest coefficient possible. For instance, if you have 7.5, multiply it by 2 to get 15. If you have 3.33, multiply by 3 to get 10. It's important to look at the decimals to see what number you should multiply by.

The only rule for the Lewis Dot structure that I remember is that the first four electrons have to fill up each of the four sides before adding on the next four. For the non-noble gases after four electrons, I don't think the placement of the electrons matter.

Roman numerals show up most often in transition metals, as depending on what they bond with, they could have different charges. The main approach is when you're given a formula, know the charge of the other atom and then you would know the charge of the transition metal. For example, if you are give...
