Re: 14B and 14BL

From what I read on bruin walk, it seems like the "labs" are videos of the TA's doing the experiments. The reports were based on data provided by the course, maybe it's something like data mining. I recommend looking at the reviews on bruin walk, they even have labels that say if the stude...

Heavier atoms and molecules experience stronger London dispersions than smaller ones. I do believe they are present in all molecules though.

Re: Central Atom Question

In order for covalent bonding to occur, the central atom must have enough available electrons to form at least two bonds. Hydrogen atoms have only one electron and can form only one bond.

I think it's important not to stress too much about grades right now considering we barely passed the halfway mark. We have another midterm and final to try to get our grades in a better position. We got this!

Electronegativity relates to the ability of an atom to attract electrons to itself. Electron affinity is the energy change when an electron is added to an atom. So they are connected in a way!

Re: sapling no. 8

So you know that this is the Balmer series because of the visible blue line which means n1=2. Use the rydberg equation of v=R( (1/n1^2) - (1/n2^2) ). We know frequency equals c/λ. Make sure to convert the wavelength to meters. Once you plug in all your values, you should be able to solve for n2.

Re: wavelength

Neither a wavelength or frequency can be negative. It can be a bit confusing because in the Rydberg Equation the results can be negative or positive. This just expresses how the energy would be released (higher to lower energy level) or absorbed (lower to higher energy level).

One thing I'm still not really sure of is how many zeros after a sig fig on the right side of the decimal point are sig figs. For example, if I was to determine asked for 0.320 and 0.3200, would they both have three sig figs? Any trailing zero where a decimal point is shown would be significant. So...
