Re: Test Scored for Midterm 1

From what I remember, scores will be released once everyone has taken the exam and it has been reviewed to ensure there are no errors

Re: Balancing equations

I believe there are different approaches that all lead to the same answer. Personally, I try and balace the atoms that are least present in the reaction first

Re: Midterm scratch work

From my understanding, the test is multiple choice but there will be partial credit. Some answers will get partial credit based on what you had to do to get to that point

Re: How do I know how many sig figs to use?

For addition and subtraction, your answer should have the same number of decimal places as the lowest number. For multiplication and division, your answer should have the same number of significant digits as the number with the fewest sig figs

I am watching my lectures and going over my notes. Aside from doing the sapling homework, I go over the textbook problems if I have extra time

Re: How to deal with significant figures in decimals with zeros.

20.01 has four sig figs. Whenever a 0 is between two significant digits, it's considered significant, regardless of whether it is before or after the decimal point. However, a trailing zero is only significant if it is after the decimal point.

The symbol just means that the molar mass isn't exact and falls anywhere in the range of 90-100 g/mol

Whenever you're converting to moles or looking for the "number of atoms," you'll be using Avogadro's number

Re: Order of Balancing Rxns

I usually try to balance the atoms that there are the most of in a chemical reaction first and then move to the ones that there are the least of. To keep track of the ones I've balanced, I tally them on the side of the equation.
