Oxidizing agents are reduced and gain electrons, while reducing agents are oxidized and lose electrons.

During oxidation, electrons are lost, so LEO is an acronym that says "losing electrons is oxidation".

q is negative if it is exothermic or releasing heat. q is positive when it is endothermic and takes in heat.

Re: Sapling Week 3/4 #19

Hi, I found the calorimeter constant first, c, by using the equation c=q/deltaT. I plugged in x kJ and temp change, and solved for q by multiplying it by the temp change for the next reaction. DeltaU=q, which was found in your equation.

Hi! Does anyone know when Dr. Lavelle says the Sapling assignments are due midnight Sunday of the week is he referring to Sunday as the first day of the week? Like is the Week 1 Assignment due on 11:59pm on Jan 10th or 17th? Thanks in advance :) I believe they are due Jan 17th, so the end of week 2!
