Re: Studying from Scratch

Yeah I feel like I'm starting from scratch too. I haven't taken a course like this in a long time, and I don't think I prepared myself enough for it. Hoping other people reply so I can see what they're doing and adjust my own system. I pretty much just use a planner and do things the day they're due...

Does anyone know the answer to this now? I thought it would be a good idea but I was too scared to ask haha

Re: Anxiety

I've been trying to spread out my studying but it's really not working. I thought AP Chem would help me enough in this course to get by, but so far it's been really hard. Going to try some of the other suggestions and hope that they work

Re: Studying for the Mid-term

I like watching crash course and doing textbook problems! I think this is the most effective way to study, even though it seems a little tedious. But good on you for starting to study 2 weeks before the exam!

Re: First Midterm Online

I'm also a little confused about this! Are we able to start it at any point in the class period and get the full 50 minutes? Or will it automatically time out and submit when the class period is "officially" over?

Re: Study Habits

I typically use textbook questions and lecture notes, but occasionally I'll look up a past year's AP exam question on the topic to quiz myself on something more conceptual. I think if you can get those types of questions right, you'd be set for the exam! I agree though, it feels really tedious to do...

Re: Adding Parenthetical State of Matter in Equation

It is good practice to write states of matter, especially for aqueous compounds in your equation! Typically, the only time you might not include them is if all compounds in the equation are in the same state.

Re: Balancing equations

There is only one (fully reduced) solution, but there are many ways of getting there! I suggest starting with the H or O because these tend to be present in the most compounds when balancing. If these aren't in the equation, start with the element that is present in the most compounds so you avoid d...

Re: Rusty on High School Chem [ENDORSED]

I'm in a similar position. I haven't taken chem since my junior year of high school, and I'm feeling a little stressed. I think Crash course is always a good option, or making a study group if that's possible for you!

Re: Naming a compound

I think the most helpful way (although it seems tedious at the time) is doing flashcards with the most common compounds you come across. Also, memorizing the suffixes can help you a lot if you ever get stuck on a test

Some Ebook Assignments not loading

Hi everyone! I joined this class a little late, and am having trouble opening/loading some of the Achieve work. For example, I was able to complete 3/5 of the week 1 assignments, but I can't even see the Week 1 Homework. Do I need to be using on-campus wifi? Or is there something wrong with my cooki...

Re: Scientific Calculator

I imagine you won't be able to use your phone's calculator, since it's a lot harder to regulate a separate device. But I'm sure if you have a scientific calculator, you'd be able to use that (and it's probably better as it's made to perform these operations). A solid scientific calculator is always ...

Also!! We had a meeting about baking with copper bowls, and how they are better for whipping eggs, meringue, whipping cream, etc because they give you stable peaks and the ingredients are less likely to denature

I thought the meeting we had about preserving meats was super cool, maybe something to look up for anyone interested! We also had a tasting port...

I always make sure to get enough sleep and make a good breakfast in the morning! It's tempting to study until the last second, but you will end up running yourself ragged and the information won't stick in your head as well.

Additionally, you can use a hybrid equation! Like this one: E=hc/ƛ formed by solving for v and plugging in. Might help reduce the number of steps you need to solve the equation :)
