Lately, when studying, I've been getting into more ambient stuff, like Aphex Twin and Duster. Cocteau Twins are also good for studying. If I listen to Frank Ocean or other RnB artists, I just start singing and distracting myself.

I don't really have a particular comfort movie (maybe Parasite?), but my roommate's comfort movie has to be The Menu. He watched that movie about 5 times over the course of 2 weeks, honestly incredible on his part.

KING CRAB. If you go to one of those restaurants where it's served in a plastic bag with all the cajun seasoning and butter at the bottom, seeping into it, oh me oh my. Honestly unparalleled food right there. Too bad it's really expensive, but for celebrations, it is objectively the best food ever a...

The oxidation number can usually be assumed by an ion's charge, and it is usually easy to keep in mind that Oxygen is -2, Hydrogen is either +1 or -1 depending on what it is bonded to, and natural elements are always 0.

Always remember that deltaG = deltaH - TdeltaS. If deltaG is negative, then the reaction will be spontaneous, and if deltaG is positive, then the reaction is nonspontaneous and the reverse reaction is instead spontaneous.

Question 18 on the recent achieve helps a lot in determining the difference between an intermediate and a catalyst. A catalyst is present at the beginning but not present in the final reaction, while an intermediate is neither present at the beginning nor in the final product.

Re: What does zero order mean
Hi Jayla, I was looking at a chart that somebody posted on a different forum, which has been helping me out a lot. It shows that for zero-order half-life it is t1/2 = 1/2[A]k, for first-order half-life it is t1/2 = .0693/k, and for second-order half-life it is t1/2 = 1/(k[A]). I hope this helps!

I believe that the question had us assume that "all other factors were equal", which in this case probably meant that we can assume that A=1 for the equation.

I think it just depends on the context of the question, like if it is asking about the total amount of heat, or the amount of heat per mol.

Insulated systems prevent heat transfer between the system and the surroundings, while an isolated system has no energy transfer whatsoever with its surroundings.

It never hurts to convert to Kelvin, but since 1 degree of change is the same for both Celsius and Kelvin, it doesn't really matter for addition and subtraction. However, for multiplying and dividing temperatures, you should convert to Kelvin.

Re: Achieve Weeks 3/4 #12
So I guess that when it comes to worrying about the sign, it depends on whether you are just using the heat value for a calculation, or if the problem is actually asking whether heat is lost or gained. This calorimeter question is asking about the amount of heat that was moved, and for this specific...

Re: Achieve Weeks 3/4 #12
For this at least, since we are just looking at the amount of heat moved for the calculations, we only care about its absolute value. The sign in this case is just to denote that heat was released.

Yup, exothermic reactions have negative enthalpy, because heat is released from the system in those reactions, while endothermic reactions have positive enthalpy since those reactions absorb heat into the system.

Because every chemical reaction involves the breaking or forming of bonds, every reaction is either endothermic or exothermic since energy is either absorbed or released. I guess it would be possible for the energy released to equal the energy absorbed, though this would be very unlikely to happen, ...

Since Kc has to do with concentration, I would assume that for questions dealing with concentration, you would use Kc, and then use K otherwise? I'm not super sure myself but that is my guess.

A chemist and his friend get drinks.
The chemist says "I'll have H2O."
His friend thinks that's so cool, and says "I'll have H2O too!"
They drink their drinks, and the friend vomits profusely.
