Re: Explanation on State Properties
an example of something that is not state property: if we have 2 students leaving from CS 50 to go to Ackerman union, they have different routes. a student might go to the financial aid office before the final destination while the other student could go straight to Ackerman. the amount of heat and ...

Re: Chapter 8 Homework Question 8.37
Yes i believe this will be correct since you are asked about the actual amount of heat required. to be more specific you can write that the answer in terms of per mole. the answer will be 8.22 KJ per mole of CH4(l)

Re: VE & Endothermic and Exothermic Reactions
yes, you are correct if a reaction is exothermic it will have a delta h that is negative which means that the system will be giving off a certain amount of heat to its surroundings

Re: Using Heisenberg's Uncertainty Principle
we usually take into account the spread of the uncertainty. so if something is +/-2 , we need to keep into account a spread of 4. for example if it tells you the velocity is give or take 5m/ sec, we are uncertain about the spread of (10m/s),if the velocity is 10 so it can either be 5 or 15 so we hav...

Re: Dots for Lewis Structures
for lewis dot structure , it don't think it will matter, but when we are trying to find the shape of the atom. the position of the lone pair will affect the shape of the atom , bond angle and structure in relation to VESPER model

Re: Will it be tested on midterm?
i don't think we will be tested on the Shrodinger Equation, we need to just know the logic behind it , but we will never be asked to compute it Mathematically. i remember in the lecture Dr. Lavelle said that we will never use the equation but we should know that it is related to orbitals and electro...

Re: Spectral Lines and Series
The spectra lights show us the amount of energy an electron in a hydrogen atom can absorb/ emit in order to be excited in quantum terms from one energy level to the next for example form n1 to n2 or drop form n2-n1 or n3-n1 Different levels are associated with different energy for example dropping f...

Re: Grams to Mol
So a mole is just a way of measuring an element so 1 mole of anything is simply 6.022*10^23 atoms of that particular something. You have to keep in mind that some atoms are heavier/lighter than others, for example hydrogen atom with only 1 proton in its atomic weight will be very small in comparison...

Re: Photons vs Electron equations
For photons you can use anything that doesn't involve mass for example E=h\nu c=\lambda \nu you can even drive both of the equations and combine them depending on what is given in a particular exercise or question \lambda =hc/E E=hc/\nu for electrons we have to use De Broglie \lambda =h/(mass*ve...

Re: Given the energy, calculate the wavelength of y-rays
In order for us to calculate the wavelength of the y rays given the the energy we will need to use a combined version of these two equations E=h\nu and c= \lambda \nu 1st step is to look at the information given we are given the energy but it is in KeV units we need to convert that to eV then to jou...
