Ether naming

Is the -oxy- always placed before the main carbon chain when naming if there is an ether in the molecule? I am confused on the ordering.

Numbering aldehydes

For aldehydes or just in general for functional groups that are at the end of carbon chains, if there is a another substituent connected in the chain, do you start from the functional group side of the molecule when numbering to name it? Or does the lowest number rule still apply?

Is the Arrhenius Equation only used when dealing with temperature? Is there any other use for it when dealing with rate laws?

Calculating Bond Enthalpies

Can someone give me a brief summary/elaborate on the three ways to calculate bond enthalpies? I know there is Hess's Law, using bond energies, and also using enthalpy of formations for reactants and products, but if someone could define these a little more, that would be awesome! Thanks!

Understanding Bond Enthalpies

When computing bond enthalpies, why is it that the equation is: bonds broken minus bonds formed? I am so used to seeing products minus reactants or final value minus initial value when we compute change so why is this bonds of reactants minus bonds of products?

Video: Lewis Structures and Bond Angles

I made a video showing the Lewis structures, VSEPR formulas, and bond angles of a few molecules. Hope everyone is having an awesome Thanksgiving! My first video cut off, so it continues with the second video. Enjoy!

Quiz 2 Preparation, Fall 2013, #9

I am very confused on this problem.

Which of the following species has two unpaired electrons?

a)OF+
b)NO+
c)CO+

Also, how does c's Lewis structure work when there are 9 electrons? Is it a radical?

Re: Aufbau Principle

The Aufbau principal states that electrons will fill the lowest energy levels first before filling the higher ones. Therefore, they become the most stable. However, you have to remember that the 4s orbital will be filled before the 3d orbital because it has a lower energy level.
