2011 Final question 7A

Why is this molecule a trans/E? I thought that since the two upper parts of the carbons are attached to other carbons it should be a cis/z.

2011 Final question 1B

For the 2011 final question 1B for the part asking you to calculate delta H for the reaction why do we have to cool the reactants from 398 to 298K? and how do we know to cool it to specifically 298K?

drawing structures for final

Will we be required to draw out the conformations for cyclohexane or cyclobutane or will we just need to be able to recognize how the look like for the final?

"looking down on the c1-c2" bond

What does it mean when a questions asked to draw a Newman projection of a molecule "looking down the c1-c2 bond"? do we just draw the regular Newman projection of the molecule?

Re: Oxidation Numbers

one of the rules I know is that naturally diatomic elements which are: H2, O2, F2, Br2, I2, Cl2 always have a oxidation state of 0.

Re: Polydentate and Lewis Structure

It tends to be the number of ligands attached to the metal center that equals the coordination number unless there is a polydentate like en or edta.
