Given half reactions
I was just studying, and I couldn't remember a very important concept. If we are given the half reactions and the E of reduction for both, how do we know which half reaction to flip to be oxidation? Thanks!

Cis or trans in long chains
I understand how to determine cis or trans in simple examples, but I don't understand how to do it with long chains such as the one shown on page 105 of the course reader, 3,6-dimethyl-3-octene. Is that cis or trans and why?

Meaning of orders of rate laws
I understand how to calculate the order and how to use them, but I'm a little confused what exactly they mean in relationship of the reaction. Can someone explain what it means for it to be zero, first, or second order in the actual reaction?

Constant Temperature and Pressure
In lecture, Lavelle said that because Gibbs free energy is a state function, it doesn't matter the course or how it got there only that it did get there. But then we talked about that it must be at a constant temperature and pressure. Does that mean that temperature and pressure can change throughou...

Standard States
How do we know the physical property of an element at its standard state? For example, Professor Lavelle said that iodine is a solid at its standard state. How do we know that if it isn't given to us?

Finals
I know this may seem like a really silly question, but I just wanted to double check because this would be a hard mistake to fix. I know our final for this class is the 6th, but after we take that are we completely done with this class for the quarter? We don't have any projects or assignments due a...

Measurable Wavelike
In class, we calculated the wavelength of a car and electrons. We found that the car didn't have any measurable wavelike properties at 1.64 x 10^-38 m, but that the electron had measurable wavelike properties at 1.4 x10^-10 m. My question is what value or range of values is considered "measurab...
