Is there a difference between the projection or diagram, or are they just the same thing, different names?

Winter 2013 Q.6B

On the winter 2016 final exam q.6B, they give us a common name and their respective IUPAC name and then we are asked to match them all up with their respective structure. Will we be required to know all the common names?

Re: Chemistry Jokes

Every time I tell chemistry jokes, I get no reaction. Which sucks because I happen to tell them periodically. But it's not my fault, because all the good ones Argon. I might as well take all my bad chemistry jokes and go barium. - - - I make chemistry puns pretty often, but feel like the ultimate lo...

Re: Two cycloalkanes attached to each other

What's the difference between using phenyl and benzyl when naming structures that have cyclohexanes connected to longer carbon chains(therefore making the cyclohexane the substituent).

Re: Quiz 3 Winter 2016

I got my quiz 3 back and for one of the questions, they asked us to: Determine the systematic name for the following organic molecule: and the structure was a cyclopentane with 2 methyls and a bromine attached. When naming it though, I got marked off when I called the structure a cyclopentane even ...

Re: Two cycloalkanes

On quiz 3, they asked us to draw the line structure of (C6H11)C(CH3)3, so I drew a cyclohexane with a tert-propyl attached to it. However, they wanted the systematic name so I wrote down (1,1-dimethylethyl)cyclohexane and I got marked wrong on the dimethylethyl part, specifically the ethyl part. Wha...

Gibbs Free Energy

Can anyone explain Gibbs free energy in simpler terms or answer why it is needed? I know how to solve for Gibbs free energy and also use that to solve for other variables, but I don't really understand what it is like how I understand enthalpy or entropy. Thank you.
