I also try and determine this by first drawing a structure with the longest Carbon chain possible and then drawing structures with one Carbon less each time. Can anyone explain why Container A has the highest entropy? Why would a monatomic gas have a higher entropy than a vibrationally active diatomic gas?

Can anyone explain why, in diagram 26 on page 805 in the book, the left hand structure is trans and the right hand structure is cis? Thanks!

Changes in Volume

In Lecture on Wednesday we discussed that there can only be a change in volume in a system if a gas is involved in the reaction, and that if a solid or liquid is involved, PdV would be insignificant. Is this assuming that the system is closed/isolated?
