the example for the monoterpenes is named 3,7-dimethylocta-1,3,7-triene. shouldn't it be 3,7-dimethyl-1,3,7-octatriene? or can it both of these?

cis/trans only applies for same group, for example, 2 H on 2 sides, 2 CH3 on 2 sides... We are comparing two groups that are out of the page or into the page. In other words, in this case, you would have to compared the relative position of groups on the left and right side of the compound. I seem ...

in page 96 of the course reader, the first organic compound named is 4-ethyl-2,2-dimethyl-hexanes. why is there a "-2" after the 4-ethyl?

in the course reader it says that if one reactant concentration is small and the rest are big then it only relies on the small concentration reaction. How much smaller does the reactant have to be to only use one reactant instead of all?

pg 28 talks about systems, so I would go back and read the beginning of chapter 8 once we learn about it in class.
