Newman Conformation

For a carbon with two functional groups, what functional group goes on the upper most line in a staggered conformation? Does it matter?

Steric Contribution

Can someone explain what steric contribution is and how it affects delta S? The orange book briefly mentions it, so I just want clarification/further explanation. Thanks!

-ium Page 156 O-Chem book

Can someone explain when we use the ending -ium? Is it just for atoms with a positive charge? Thanks.

Spectroscopy

Can someone explain what spectroscopy is and how it affects reactions/how it is related to kinetics? The book describes it very vaguely on page 614 of the textbook, but I do not quite understand it. Thanks.

Given the following reduction half reactions: I2(s) +2e- --> 2I^-(aq) E°= 0.54 Cl2(g) + 2e- --> 2Cl^-(aq) E°=1.36 The question asks to find E°, ΔG°, and K at 25°C for the following reaction: Cl2(g) + 2NaI(aq) = 2NaCl(aq) + I2(s) After finding that E°=0.82V and ΔG°= -1.6x10^2 KJ, I tried using the eq...

Cp^n and Cr^n

On page 42 of the course reader, Lavelle shows that (Cp^n/Cr^n) is equal to K in the equation Gp^o-Gr^o= -RTlnK.

What exactly does Cp^n and Cr^n stand for and how would we find/calculate the Cp^n and Cr^n of the reactants and products?

Given:
OF2+H20 = O2+2HF ΔH= -318KJ

What is the change in internal energy for the reaction of 1.00 mol of OF2?

I don't understand why Δn=+1mol and how this ends up changing PV=nRT to PΔV=ΔnRT?

Specific Heat Capacity

On page 21 of the course reader, it says that the molar heat capacity of a gas at a constant volume is Cv and the molar heat capacity if a gas at a constant pressure is Cp. Then, HEAT REQUIRED is converted from nCpΔT to J. My question is: Will the constant pressure or volume be given in order to fin...
