I would label them as functional groups just in case so we don't lose points unnecessarily.

Dear Dr. Lavelle,

Thanks for being the backbone of all pre-med students at UCLA, your enthusiasm and passion for teaching really made chemistry one of the best classes I have ever taken.

When naming alkenes with multiple double bonds, suppose a hexene with 2 double bonds, do we end the molecule name with hexa diene or just hexdiene?

Re: Dissociation energy and Molecular orbital energy level diagram

Yeah you can because the stronger the bond the more the dissociation energy and we can find relative bond strength through molecular orbital theory through Bond order (1/2(bonding + anti bonding))

Re: What is the correct number of significant figures for 13.27(b)?

Since we are measuring pH the correct number of sig figs is the number of decimal places used when finding pH, which is 2 decimal places because 14.00 has digits that go up to 2 past the point.

You can't write it as [Kr] because there are many ions that are isoelectronic with [Kr] so just using [Kr] would be too unspecific. Writing in in the expanded form allows us to know for sure that the ion we are talking about is Br-

Re: Bond Angle

We just have to say less than 109.5 because VSEPR only allows us to know qualitatively the bond angles. It is less than 109.5 because the two lone pairs above the oxygen force down the bonds making the two bonds closer to each other.

Re: Process of determining bond types

You actually can figure out all the bonds after just drawing the lewis structure but if you automatically draw it in the shape you need then it is even easier. Once you have the bonds (single, double, triple) represented in the lewis structure you can just use those to determine how many sigma and p...

Re: Wanted Formal Charge

We want the formal charge to equal zero because that means the charges are evenly distributed throughout the molecule putting it in its most stable state. To get the overall formal charge of the molecule we have to calculate the individual formal charges of each atom [FC= V+(L+S/2)] and add them tog...

I'm a bit confused, what is the order we need to draw our electron dots in for the lewis structure or does it not matter as long as we stick to one pattern the whole time?
