Re: Ch 15 Exercise 3a
To find the rate of a reactant, we use the following formula: Rate= - Delta [R] / Delta T Since the concentration of reactants is decreasing over time, we use a negative in the equation to cancel out the negative value of concentration. In the course reader on page 59, it also says that we want to w...

Some chemistry puns!
1) What do you do with a sick chemist?
-If you can't helium, and can't curium, then you might as well barium.
2) I told a chemistry joke, but there was no reaction!
3) All the good periodic table jokes argon?
I dont zinc so!

Re: Work on a System [ENDORSED]
Work done on the system means something outside of the system (the surroundings) did something to increase the internal energy of the system. Work done by the system means the system's internal energy decreased as it did work on something outside the system (its surroundings).

The value -169,2 kJ is not the answer because the final equation does to contain NO as a a reactant. In order to cancel the unwanted NO, we must do the following: -169.2kJ= the enthalpy of formation of N2O5 (which is what we are trying to solve for) - 2(+90.25 kJ) = +11.3kJ The second part of this e...

Re: Aufbau Principle [ENDORSED]
According to the Aufbau Principle, electrons fill up orbitals with the lowest energy first before filling up the higher energy orbitals. For example, an electron configuration for Cl would be 1s^2, 2s^2, 2p^6, 3s^2 ,3p^5, because a 3p orbital has greater energy than a 2p orbital. Hund's Rule states ...

In this problem, we are given the masses of the reactants and the actual yield. We are asked to calculate the percent yield, which can be solved by this formula: Percent Yield= (Actual Yield/Theoretical Yield) x 100 However, we first need to find the theoretical yield, which can be done by solving f...
