Re: Nernst Equation

No it can be at any temperature. Only the Nernst Equation that is E=E(standard)- (.05916)/n)*logQ needs to be at 298K.

Re: Winter 2013 Final 1B

If volume increases and temperature decreases, pressure MUST decrease to satisfy the PV=nRT equation, so there's actually no way pressure would have been constant. With that said, the above post is correct.

Cyclohexene example in course reader [ENDORSED]

On page 102 of the course reader, there are more IUPAC naming examples of alkenes. The third example is named 1,6-dichlorocyclohexene. Why is it not 1,2-dichlorocyclohexene?

Order When Naming

When naming a cyclohexane that has 1 ethyl and 2 methyl substituent on either the 1st or 3rd carbon, would you put the 1 with the ethyl and the 3 with the methyl or the other way around? (Is it 1-ethyl-3,3-dimethyl-cyclohexane or 3-ethyl-1,1-dimethyl-cyclohexane?)

Which process does more work?

From Chapter 8 Number 11: A piston confines 0.200 mol Ne(g) in 1.20 L at 25 degrees C. Two experiments are performed. (a) The gas is allowed to expand through an additional 1.20 L against a constant pressure of 1.00 atm (b) The gas is allowed to expand reversibly and isothermally to the same final v...

Ka values in multiple reactions

Since polyprotic acids can donate more than one proton there is more than one reaction and more than one Ka value found. After finding each Ka of each reaction, why do you multiply the Kas together to get the overall K instead of adding them?

Difference between Ionic bonds and Molecules Lewis Strructure [ENDORSED]

Why are Ionic bonds' Lewis structures look different from the normal molecules lewis structures? For example, in our course reader the lewis formula for potassium chloride on page 76. Usually the normal lewis structures do not have brackets, what do these brackets for the ionic bonds mean?
