Practice final 2014 Question 3 E

Sorry if this has been asked before but for Q3 (E) on the 2014 practice final exam, why do we use logQ instead of lnQ within the Nerst Equation for this problem? is it because its at 25 degrees Celsius? and does the log and ln affect the Faraday constant "F" as well? Thanks for the help!

Phenols

It seems we did not really cover the functional group of phenols in the course reader but it was sometimes introduced in the textbook. Was just wondering if this topic was important for us to know for the purposes of this class or something more for when we get into organic chemistry classes later on.

Line Structure Orienation

Hey was just wondering if in future tests and quizzes will we get marked down if we do not have the perfect position orientation when we draw the line structure of hydrocarbons in general? More specifically if we have the line structure right will we be marked down still if it is only the exact mirr...

Ch.15 question 15.85

Hey for this textbook problem what does it mean by "the proposed structure for the activated complex"? As in part (a) it gives you the case rate=k[CH3CHO] (products are CH3 and CHO). The chemical equation is CH3CHO --->CH3+CHO, but the solution for this activated complex is [CH3.........CH...

Zero Order Classification [ENDORSED]

Hey I understand the rate law for a zero order reaction is rate=k but I am still confused on how we know what reactants are zero order, can someone help me clarify how one would go about this?

how to calculate n correctly

I know that n in the equation deltaG^o=-nFE^o represents the number of moles of electrons transferred but was still confused on how to go about finding said number. Is there a specific calculation to find it or is it simply counting the number of electrons being transferred from one side to the other?

Re: Quiz 1 Preparation Answers

I know people have already posted how to find work (w) for #3 but what do we do to find heat (q)? I know the problem consists of an ideal gas, change in volume and pressure, etc.. but is it just a modified version of q=nC(delta_T)?

Re: HW 9.13

yeah I thought that was a little weird too, but I think its mostly because in this question, although it shows change in temperature and change in volume, its not really focused on any phase changes or enthalpy really. In this case, we don't need "C" or specific heat of nitrogen gas, it ju...

-q(Rxn)=q(cal)? [ENDORSED]

I was just wondering why exactly the energy of heat in a reaction is negative when compared to the energy of heat that is picked up by the bomb calorimeter ( which is a closed system) that it is taking place in. Is it simply because the reaction is releasing heat to the calorimeter within?

Re: Equipartition Theorem

As in when you calculate the internal energy of an atom's or molecule's translational and or rotational energy. I'm just confused on how you implement the theorem correctly to calculate them.

Equipartition Theorem

Hello can someone summarize when and where to use the equipartition theorem in regards to calculating internal energy of molecules and such?
