Re: 2016 final question 3B

The Cathode is always going to have the higher reduction half reaction value to make the total cell potential as high as possible because we calculate that through the equation Cathode potential - Anode Potential

Alkenes as functional groups??

Hey all!
Just wondering whether we consider alkenes functional groups? Would the same go for alkynes?
Much appreciated!

Re: Reaction Profiles

The intermediate and especially transition states are significantly less stable than the products or reactants because they often lack neutral charges or full valence shells on all their atoms. Because they are less stable, they will have more energy, which is our activation energy.

Re: Determining k vs k'

k is generally the forward rate constant with reactions going to products and k prime is generally the rate constant for the flipped reaction, where the original products are now going to the reactants.

Re: Chapter 14 Question 3

Because the reaction is aqueous, it is taking place in water; therefore, the water will actually provide the mechanism to balance the half reactions and electron transfer. To balance the Oxygen in the half reactions, one must add H2O to the opposite side and to balance Hydrogen, one must add H+ to t...

Re: Universe as a system [ENDORSED]

The Universe might be expanding, but it is still an isolated system because it can neither gain nor lose both matter and energy. We can see this idea in the first law of thermodynamics that states energy can be transformed and transferred, but not gained or destroyed. Additionally, the expansion of ...
