Re: Chair conformation
A ring flip is as the person above described, when all the axial groups become equatorial and all equatorial become axial. Ups remain ups and downs remain downs. Although chair is the most stable form, the significance of this process as described in lecture is for the molecule to reach an even more...

Re: Question on number 27?
The naming is correct. Ketone is the functional group here and is given priority in that its suffix is attached onto the parent chain (in this case propane) at the 3rd carbon. You state the non functional groups first which is why the 2-dimethyl comes before the functional group. You will have 2 met...

Re: R [ENDORSED]
You are going to use different constants depending on what the units are for the rest for the values you have. When you have joules in your calculations, you will be using r=8.314, whereas if you have liters atm, you should be using r=0.08206.

Re: Chapter 8.55, Hess's Law
The 3/2 multiplier comes from balancing the equation. Before attempting any Hess's Law problems, it is important to make sure the equation is balanced. In this case, we had 2 oxygens compared to 3 on the right hand side. Thus the 3/2 multiplier.

If you only need to determine if the material is paramagnetic or diamagnetic then it would save you time on a test to only draw out the middle part of the MO diagram.

Re: kJ vs. J
Answer in whichever is appropriate for the answer. For example if the answer is 28912J, it would probably be best to answer in kJ. J and kJ are basically the same units so no need to worry about the SI unit part.

Re: Problem 10 on Limiting Reactant [ENDORSED]
First thing you should check for is if your chemical equation is balanced and then continue on with your calculations.
