You are going to use different constants depending on what the units are for the rest for the values you have. When you have joules in your calculations, you will be using r=8.314, whereas if you have liters atm, you should be using r=0.08206.

Answer in whichever is appropriate for the answer. For example if the answer is 28912J, it would probably be best to answer in kJ. J and kJ are basically the same units so no need to worry about the SI unit part.
