Re: Post All Chemistry Jokes Here

How are oxidation-reduction reactions different than a clothing store?...

At the clothing store, when the price is reduced, it doesn't gain anything.

Entropy at 0k

Hello,
I want to clarify why molecules differ in entropy when they are at 0k? We had a question like this on the quiz and I thought the molecules had no entropy because there was no movement at 0k and because of the third law of thermodynamics? Please explain. Thank you in advance.

Porous disk versus salt bridge

Hello,

I was wondering if theres a difference between using a porous disk or a salt bridge in terms of their function in the galvanic cell? Also if there is should we know when we should be using one or the other when drawing the galvanic cell.

Thank you in advance.

Re: Homework Problem 8.63

I believe this problem was a typo in the book and used -417.5 kj/mol as the enthalpy of formation for K2S(aq) instead of -471.5 kj/mol (which is what Appendix 2A says). I got the same answer you did.

Re: Exercise 8.41

Exercises 8.21 and 8.41 are similar except in exercise 8.41 the ice is going through a phase change so you have to calculate the heat required for that to occur (hence using the enthalpy of fusion) along with the heat calculated by using (mass x specific heat x change in temperature) equation. In 8....
