Re: Catalyst

The activation energy for both the forward and reverse reactions will lower, allowing the reaction to reach equilibrium quicker.

Working with Kelvin/Celsius [ENDORSED]

When we are calculating change in temperature, why is it that if the problem has Kelvin in it, and the temperature is given in Celsius, we don't have to convert units to get the correct change in temperature?

Re: Hc and Hf

Hf would be used in situations concerning the energy gained or lost as bonds are formed or broken during a chemical reaction.

Re: Quiz Workbook P 44 Q9

For this problem, the temperature is not involved in solving, but the K value is important, because it indicates which way the equilibrium will shift after the addition of more of each compound. ICE shouldn't be necessary to solve.

Re: Sigma & Pi Bonds

In the case of sigma bonds, there is a strong overlap between the regions of electron density, whereas with pi bonds, the overlapping p orbitals do not overlap as much, causing a weaker bond to form.

Molecular Shape

Today in class, Dr. Lavelle said that when regarding molecular shape, the length of bonds does not affect the shape. Does the bond type (single, double, triple) affect molecular shape, assuming that no new lone pairs are present?

Re: Orbital Question [ENDORSED]

I think the main difference is just that the version that uses x, y, and z in the notation can give information about the relative axes that the oribals reside on, rather than just telling you that they fall into the p subshells.
