2014 Final: #7E

Can someone clarify drawing the Newman diagram with the name given: "3-chloro-4,4,4-trihydroxy-3-methylbutanenitrile"
I'm a little confused on the numbering in regards to where to place the compounds on the Newman diagram. Thanks!

Line Structures

In general, when drawing line structures, does it matter if you start facing up or down? (like an 'M' or a 'W')

Re: Homework Problem 15.19

I believe that for problems where you can't easily recognize if the concentration is being doubled, etc. then you just use this ratio method. In this problem, the solution manual is observing experiments 2 and 3 that has concentrations, 1.25 and 3.02 respectively. It's really hard to tell what exact...

Winter Midterm 2016: Q5A

I was wondering why for part A of this question, the reaction with the higher standard Gibbs free energy is reversed?

Winter 2013 Midterm: Question #4

For part A of this question, it asks to calculate the work for each step: A to B B to C C to A Can someone clear up why for B to C, we use the reversible work formula, while for C to A, we use the irreversible work formula? I can't seem to picture visually from the graph why one is reversible and on...

Homework: Chapter 8, #67

We discussed this question in my discussion section, and I noticed that we used the enthalpy of vaporization and enthalpy of condensation of water to solve the problem. The enthalpy of vaporization and enthalpy of condensation were the same number, just different signs, i.e. vaporization = 44.0 kJ/m...
