Re: Order of Steps

I don't think the order matters, you just always use the reactants in slow step in your rate reaction

Re: Newman Projection

The question will specify which 2 carbon atoms to draw in the Newman projection and then you draw the remaining chain depending what carbon it is bonded to. It is helpful to draw out the molecule before doing the Newman projection.

units of the rate of reaction

are the units of rate always the same ( M/s)? and is it just the units of k that change when the order of reaction changes?

Re: Intermediates in pre equilibrium

If there is 2 transition states with 2 steps involved in a reaction, can there only be 1 intermediate or is it possible to have 2 intermediates?

Re: Activation energy line on reaction diagram

for 4.30 in the 'introduction to organic chemistry'. How do we know that an activation energy of 125KJmol-1 will not occur at room temperature?

Re: Catalyst

if a reaction rate increases by a factor of 1000 in the presence of a catalyst at 25 degrees, what does it mean? and how does this change the approach to equations involved in activation energy?

Work

If ΔT=0 and w=100J. ΔU = q+w =0 which means q= -w= -1000J.
Why does q=-1000 not q=0? because if ΔT=0 and you use the equation q=nCΔT wouldn't q=0 not q=-1000J?

for #1 I don't understand why the answer is 310J not -310J

units for pressure [ENDORSED]

For all equations used in thermodynamics, do we always have to convert pressure into atm(atmospheres)? and if so, do we need to know the conversions for the exams? for example from Torrs to atm?
