I think they're useful depending on the problem we're given. The integrated rate law is useful for telling how long it will take (time) for a reaction to occur, while the differential is used to tell the the initial rate of a reaction.

When writing out a cell diagram, how do you know whether to separate two terms on the same side of the cell with a comma VS a line? Is there a difference in meaning?

We use the positive and negative equations depending on whether the system/surroundings is doing work or having work done on it.

Heat is the transfer of energy due to a difference in temperature, while work is a force acting over a difference. Heat will involve a change in temperature.
