Re: Major Product vs Minor Product

i came across this as well and I think that writing both would be safe but I dont think it matters if you have one or the other

Re: Newman Projection

since its 1,2 dibromo ethane you know that there is two carbons represented in the newman projection by the circle and the center of the circle. Then like before since one bromo is on the first carbon and the other attached to second you have them come out one from the center and from the circle and...

Naming Cis or Trans

I was having trouble with the homework and in general about identifying and naming cis or trans isomers. If someone could help please explain what identifies each one or is an indicator of each of them.

Re: Molar Heat Capacity

Usually the molar heat capacity of a molecule is given so there would no need to find or calculate it. It should be given in J/(mol Celsius)

Re: Relative Acidity

You are correct for the most part, I define an acid as strong or weak based on whether or not they completely dissociate in water (Strong acids would completely or nearly completely dissociate), forming H+ and an anion. There are six strong acids. The others are considered to be weak acids. You shou...

Re: Naming Ligands

Fluoro is the old way and fluorido is the new IUPAC way, but Dr. Lavelle will or should accept either one.
I would use fluoro though just because it is in the course reader like you said.

Re: Definition of a Ligand [ENDORSED]

Water is considered a ligand; most refer to it as a simple ligand along with chloride and ammonia.
Tridentate ligands have three donor atoms which allow them to bind to a central metal atom or ion at three points.

Re: Covalent and Ionic Character

ionic compounds are typically always stronger than covalent bonds and increase in strength, from my knowledge, by the polarity difference which is related to the electronegativity difference between two elements so for example KBr has greater ionic character than NaBr. covalent compounds bond streng...

Re: Memorization Tricks

for memorizing hybridization like s p d f orbitals I set them up in columns from 1s to 7s 2p to 7p 3d to 7d and 4f to 7f and go across and at an angle for which ones come after one another so you know to fill the 4s before the 3d and others like it except for the exceptions at the 3d^5 and 10 this p...

Re: Photons vs. Particles [ENDORSED]

I think it would wave as you said for the first blank and photon for the second space. I think it would be photon because of Planck's constant and its involvement with the photoelectric effect in the sense that it will give the energy of a photon. A photon is defined as a discrete bundle (or quantum...

Re: Wavelength, Frequency, Amplitude, & Intensity

My understanding is that intensity is unrelated to frequency and wavelength. Intensity is only related to amplitude, so if amplitude is increased then more photons are emitted and the intensity would increase as well. Amplitude and intensity simply affect the brightness of light being emitted and ar...
