Equations for different types of problems

Is there a good way to remember what equation to use based on the given information and values?
For example, when to use the HH versus when to set up an ICE box

Re: Kp and Kc Same?

Kp refers to the partial pressure where Kc refers to the concentration

Re: Polydenates & Naming

It is mostly just memorization on determining how many places it binds.

As for the naming, bi and tri and the prefixes do not affect the alphabetizing.

They do not need to be in alphabetical order in the chemical formula

Re: The difference between K, Kc, and Kp

The c and the p just refer to concentration and pressure. They simply specify what type of equilibrium constant K is

Re: cis/trans naming

My TA gave us an example where we had to know cis and trans as well. It definitely could show up so know what it means and how you would draw it out in the structure.

Re: Sigma and Pi Bonds for Quiz 2

There won't be any sigma or pi bonds on the quiz. I was told to study for this quiz based on the "Quiz 2 Preparation" quiz that does not have any answers and not look at either of the other two that do have the answers as those may just be more confusing.

Re: d and s orbitals

For atoms after atomic number 20 (Ca), once the entire S state is full and you begin moving into the D orbital, the d orbital actually becomes lower energy than the S. So, when writing the configuration you will write the d before the s since you want to write the configuration out in increasing ene...

Slight Confusion about Orbitals

We went over the different orbitals in class today. However, I am still slightly confused as to what exactly the orbital IS and what it TELLS us. What knowledge do we gain from the orbitals? If anyone could just clarify their purpose for me that would be much appreciated. Thank you!!
