Re: Post All Chemistry Jokes Here
A freshman chemistry student prepared a standard solution and showed it to her professor. The professor gave her a puzzled look, and said: This solution looks a bit WEIRD. Are you sure you used the right set of reagents? The student replied: Absolutely. According to my calculations, this is one NORM...

In the workbook for quiz 2, there was a problem that asked to draw the lewis structure for S2O3. There ended up being double bonds on two of the atoms around the central atom, S. Apparently it's more stable for the double bond to be on one oxygen and one Sulfur atom rather than two oxygen atoms. The...

Re: s and d orbitals
I am really interested to know why 4s fills before 3d. I know that it's because 4s requires less energy to fill, but why is that? SHouldn't it require more energy since it is an energy level above 3d? By definition of energy levels, the 4s orbital should be further away from the nucleus than the 3d ...

How electrons behave in an atom
So I understand that in an atom, an elctron oscillates with wave-like properties around the nucleus in a certain possible area, with certain possible energy levels. What I don't understand is how the electrons can maintain that energy and not eventually lose the enrgy, causing the electron to collap...
