Re: Quiz 2 Prep. Question 6 [ENDORSED]

So the question is asking me the resonance for (NH2)COCH3 I've managed to find one structure for it. But I can't seem to find the other, unless I change the formal charge of the compound. Is that what I'm supposed to do? From what I got, in one of the structures theres a double bond between the N a...

Re: Skipping Problems on Quiz 2 Prep?

I'm pretty sure that you can skip the past quizzes (Fall 2014 and Fall 2015) entirely for the Quiz 2 prep because they seem to cover only chapter 4 material. The actual hand-in quiz that will be scored, along with Quiz 2 itself, only covers topics from chapters 2-3, so don't skip any questions on t...

Re: Relation between Formal Charge and Oxidation Number

So... we will not have to determine the oxidation number? Rather, it will be given as in Na+Cl-. Where Na has an oxidation number of +1 and Cl has an oxidation number of -1?

Thank you for sharing this, I have been wondering about that for a while.

Re: 1.27 [ENDORSED]

Hi, We did a similar problem in my discussion section (3k) last week. Divide the number of Joules (64) by (4.73 x 10 (-19) J x photon (-1) ). This cancels out Joules. Then, multiply that by (1 mol)/(Avogadro's number of protons). Your answer will be in moles of protons. Here is the a...

Re: What is the eV unit? [ENDORSED]

Also,

1 eV= 1.602x10(-19)Joules

1 J (Joule) =(1kg x m2 x s(-2))

Hope this helps!

HW 1.9 - Sig Figs

Significant figures rounding issue for HW 1.9, calculating E (energy of photon), for a dental x-ray. My final answer is E = 7.9512x 10^{-17} J Rounded to 2 sig figs, my answer is E=8.0x 10^{-17} J According to the solutions manual, the answer is E=7.9x 10^{-17} J I feel that, when rounding to 2 sig ...
