Re: Coordinate Number

Hello,

Since the number of bonds determines the coordination number, does it matter if there are double bonds or lone electron pairs on the central atom? Do those affect the coordination number at all?

Cation vs Anion Size [ENDORSED]

I know that cations are smaller than their parent atoms, while anions are larger. What is the reason for this? Does it have to do with the positive and negative charges of each one?

Ionization Energy

I know that ionizatino energy is the energy needed to remove an electron from an atom. However, how does an element have multiple ionization energies? Does it depend on the charge of the element?

What exactly does it mean for 2 electrons to be "paired" (to have opposite spin) and "parallel" (to have the same spin)? How do the quantum numbers for each differ between electrons being paired and parallel?

Constant Definition [ENDORSED]

When speaking about the properties of light, it is given that c = hv, resulting in 3.00 x 10^8.
However, I am confused as to what the official definition of 'c' is, besides being of the product of wavelength and frequency.
