Re: Equilibrium
If the value of K is greater the product is favored and if its is smaller the reactant. This makes sense because K is calculated with products in the numerator and the reactants in the denominator. So if K is greater that means the numerator is bigger, which signifies a favor in the products.

Re: Question 11.13
The reaction quotient (Q) for that equation would be (P(NH3)*P(HOCL)^3)/(P(BCl3)^2). But the equation given in Question 11.13 (a) is actually 2BCl3(g) + 2Hg(l)>B2Cl4(s) + Hg2Cl2(s) where the Q would be 1/P(BCl3)^2.

Re: Naming NH4[PtCl3(NH3)]
NH4 +1
Pt +2
Cl3 -3
NH3 neutral
coming to a total charge of 0.
Those are the charges. The actual compound [PtCl3(H3)] has a negative charge which is why there is an -ate at the end. We know Pt has a charge of +2 because we know the whole compound is neutral and for that to happen Pt has to be +2.

Re: Negative charge. Add Ate to the end
Before adding the potassium, which is added to the compound to neutralize it, the compound has a charge of -3 which is why the -ate is added.

Re: Ideal gas law
P is the pressure of the gas, V is the volume, n is the amount of substance of gas (the moles), R is the gas constant and its numerical value changes depending on the units of the other values and is usually given on the formula sheet. T is the temperature of the gas.

Re: Unit of equilibrium constant
The units of the partial pressures are cancelled out by reference pressures that they are compared to. Also there is no need for units for kc and kp because they essentially present only a ratio.
