Re: Naming of Alkenes

It's probably just hexdiene because when going from hexane to hexene, we just keep the prefix hex

Re: Nomenclature

Common names will probably be on it. It's touched upon on page 94 of the course reader. And if you need better explanations, khan academy has some great videos that have really helped me with naming.

Re: Post All Chemistry Jokes Here

A photon checks into a hotel and is asked if he needs any help with his luggage. He says, "No, I'm traveling light."

Re: 14CL

It's up to you. It can be taken at the same time or 14CL can be taken before or after 14C if I'm not mistaken

Re: Molecular Entropy

The molecule that is more complex in structure (has more atoms attached or a more disorganized arrangement of atoms) would have a greater entropy. In this case, it's NO2

Re: Electrolysis Application

Apparently electroylsis is important in a stage of seperating pure elements from natural ores. Then you could use those metals for a variety of things.

Re: Heat Capacities Constant Pressure vs. Volume

They're different because pressure and volume can affect the kinetic motion of molecules differently, (higher pressure means molecules can't move as fast so typically needs more heat to get the molecules moving so the heat capacity is higher). It might be on the quiz so I would study it to be sure.

Re: Chem 14B Course reader

I believe the course reader is very useful because it includes all of Lavelle's slides for notes so that you can pay more attention to what he's saying, and the course reader typically has practice exams and quizzes which could be useful for studying for tests.

Well I know making a table of the shapes and the electron density regions for each helps straighten everything out.

Re: Visual of Resonance

Sadly I couldn't find any pictures but the way my AP Chem teacher showed it to us is the following. Imagine a atom bonded with three atoms around it. All the bonds are single bonds but next to each bond is a dashed line representing the extra pull due to the double bond. The double bond is not drawn...

Re: How do photons have momentum? [ENDORSED]

Well photons don't have momentum because they don't have mass. Like you said, momentum is mass x velocity and since photons have no mass, they have no momentum.

No they aren't all the same. The type of atom affects the minimum energy required for the electron's emission.
