Difference between pka and Ka

I am aware that Ka is a measure of the dissociation of acidity and that pka is used in reference to weak acids however is pka also a measure of dissociation or a constant like Ka?

Placement of Electrons in Orbitals

When dealing with heterogeneous diatomic ions, which outer orbital is the electron removed or added to? I am aware that the element that is the most electronegative is lower than the opposing element in the molecule however for a compound like BO- or BO+, is the electron removed or added to the Boro...

Difference between H2O and OH2

In the case of compounds like water and nitrate,is there anyway for someone to recognize which atom in the molecule of the ligand is directly bonded to the metal (For water one is bonded by the H, H20, while the other is bonded by the O OH2)? Or is the order of the chemical representation negligible?

Quiz #3 Prep [ENDORSED]

Question 4 on the third Quiz prep. exam asks for the coordination number of the compound [Fe(Cl)4(en)]2-. The answer that I generate after counting the ligands is 5 however the answer key states the answer as 6. Is there a mistake on my part or is the answer key incorrect?

Re: HF Diagram

Ideally because HF is a heterodiatomic molecule you would refer to the Molecular Orbital associated with Z>8. In this model, the 2sigmaP bond actually occurs after the 2sigmaPi if you look at the chart from the bottom up.

Electron Configuration exceptions

I am aware that Cu and Cr are exceptions to the typical electron configuration rule because of their unstable state but does this rule apply to ions with the same electron configuration?
For example:
Cu: [Ar]3d^10 4s^1
Zn+: [Ar] 3d^9 4s^2

Why do the electron configuration of Zn+ and Cu differ?

Relation between Formal Charge and Oxidation Number

I am aware that the formal charge and the overall charge of the molecule are the same number, however I am unaware of how these values relate to a molecule's oxidation number. Is the formal charge, as well as the oxidation number also of the same value?

Re: elements with low ionization energy

Ideally in order for an element to conduct electricity, its electron need to be delocalized or free flowing. If an element has a low ionization energy this implies that the element's electrons are not as closely attracted to the nucleus and therefore are more mobile enabling them to conduct electric...

Re: #55? [ENDORSED]

In question 55, the value of 3600 cm^-1 is neither a wavelength nor a measure of a diameter but rather an expression of energy that can be set equal to frequency/speed of light
