If you can't "helium" or "curium," then you have to "barium."

Transition States and Intermediates

Can someone please elaborate more on transition states and intermediates?

transition states have partially formed bonds and intermediates have fully formed bonds, but how can you tell in a reaction? Is the transition state given?

Writing the Cell Diagram for Galvanic Cells

Can someone explain how to write the cell diagram? Does the anode go first then the salt bridge and then the cathode along with the metal?

Ex: Zn(s)|Zn^2+(aq)||NO3-(aq)|NO2(g)|Pt(s)

Anode and Cathode placement in Galvanic/Voltaic Cells

For a Galvanic cell, does the anode need to be on the left side and the cathode on the right at all times? Or can it be vise versa? And can someone elaborate more on the cell potential? I just know that it is the maximum potential/voltage of the cell.

Quiz 1 Question 7 (increase in entropy)

Question 7 on Quiz 1 in the course reader (pg 114) It is asking which of the processes leads to an increase in entropy. I get the reason why 2 and 3 processes lead to an increase in entropy, but I don't get why 5 doesn't lead to an increase in entropy? 5) A glass of water loses 100 J of energy rever...

Isothermal Reactions: Reversible expansion

For an isothermic reaction, will it always have reversible expansion? And I don't quite understand the concept of the reversible expansion diagram in the course reader on page 30. I only know that it occurs when the pressure is changing within the expansion of the gas.
