When to use -cis and -trans?

When do you use cis and trans?
Is it only when there is a double bond or can a triple bonded molecule have cis/trans?
Also, why is this molecule a trans?

Thanks!

Naming and Line structure 1.10

Give the systematic name for CH3CH2CH(CH3)C(CH3)3 and draw the line structure.

If the question only asked for name, could I use 1-tertbutyl-2-methylbutane? Or would the only name be 2, 2, 3-trimethylpentane?

Hi, I'm not understanding the loss and reverse part of the question. If anyone can help, that would be great! Re: Work of Expansion [ENDORSED]

I'm not sure if this anywhere near what answer you were looking for, but .. I think for reactions that happen quickly (at infinitesimal changes), we can use w=-P_{ex}\cdot \bigtriangleup V . For reactions that happen more slowly, we use the integral (which is the cumulative sum of all the w=-P_{ex}\...

I'm looking over how the book uses Hess's Law on 8.9 and I don't understand how the book got H2O2 for Step 2. Propane, C3H8, is a gas used as a fuel for outdoor grills and alternative-fuel vehicles. The enthalpy change for the synthesis of propane from its elements in their standard states is diffic...

Does it matter how many significant figures there are after the decimal while adding, multiplying, dividing, etc. ? (or does the number of significant figures of the result matter only?)
