Re: Saying Thank You to Dr. Lavelle

I didn't realize how much of a personal sacrifice you had to make in order to remain our professor, and I am so glad that...

Re: When to Use Z and E?

We use Z and E when we're working with alkenes that need to be categorized as either cis or trans. Particularly when none of the 4 groups attached to the 2 carbons match. For example, on page 103 of the course reader, Z-1-Bromo-2-Chloropropene is named so due to the fact that none of the groups atta...

Why do chemistry professors like to teach about ammonia? Because it's basic material.

Maybe by the end of this week. But chances are that they will input quiz grades when they put in the midterm grades too.

It can be both, but C is the standard unit. It's on page 18 of the course reader :)

If a king farts, is it a noble gas?

Got mole problems? Call Avogadro at 602-1023.

What do you call a tooth in a glass of water? A one molar solution.

Re: Post All Chemistry Jokes Here

Do you have 11 protons? Because you're sodium fine.

Are you a charged atom cuz I've got my ion on you.

Chem students do it on the table periodically XD

Re: Fall 2014 Midterm Question 2B

Yes, you're right. When you draw the Lewis structure, the aluminum is the center atom and accepts electrons from the chloride, which is why it is a Lewis acid.

Wait, wouldn't the final energy level be 3? Since initial n is 1 because of the Lyman series.

Re: Atomic Spectra Question [ENDORSED]

For this question, I used a variation of the Rydberg equation found in the textbook on page 7. It accounts for the initial and final energy levels (n). Since the question is dealing with the ultraviolet spectrum, we know that it's going to be the Lyman series, which means that the initial n will be ...
