Dr. Lavelle,
Thank you so much for all the resources, review sessions, extra hours, and the time you put into answering our questions on this forum! It definitely helped me get through 14B.
All the best,
Abbas

Reaction mechanisms ochem [ENDORSED]
will we only be required to know electrophilic addition and nucleophilic substitution for quiz 3 or are there any other mechanisms that we should know?

Re: Catalysts [ENDORSED]
The difference is that homogenous catalysts are catalysts that are in the same phase as the reactants (solid catalyst-solid reactant) and heterogeneous catalysts are catalysts that are in different phase (solid catalyst-gas reactant). There's information on catalysts on page 76 of the course reader....

Re: products in rate law equation
I don't think so. The course reader also states that the products should also be removed continuously to keep the product concentration low so that it doesn't affect rate equation. Hope this helps!

Catalysts [ENDORSED]
If catalysts affect the speed of the reaction, are there reactions in which the catalyst is included in the rate equation?

HWQ 8.67
Hi, for homework question 8.67, why do we have to atomize C? I was thinking that C(solid) is the most stable form of carbon

Re: Bond Enthalpy vs Enthalpy of formation [ENDORSED]
I think bond enthalpy is the amount of energy required to break one mole of a bond, where as Enthalpy of formation is the change in enthalpy when n moles of a substance in its standard state is formed from its elements in standard state.

Total Mass
When mixing a solid and a liquid in a calorimeter, do we use the sum of the masses when calculating (mass x sp heat cap. x temp. change) ?

Re: MO Energy Diagrams for non-diamtomics
For hetero-nuclear molecules (i.e. HF, CO, NO), you would use the molecular orbital diagram for z<8. So the pi 2p would be below the sigma 2p. Question 6 of the Fall Midterm 2014 in the course reader is an example for NO
