ICE Box [ENDORSED]

When would you typically use the ICE box? Are there any certain indicators in the question that could hint at it?

Quiz 3 #7

Can someone explain how to approach this? I know it's [P]/[R], but I don't necessarily understand where the x comes in.

Re: MO Diagram

I believe we use the MO diagram for the one that corresponds with Z>8 in this case.

Re: Valence Electron Configuration

I think that you can count how many valence electrons there are based on where it is on periodic table. For example, we know that oxygen has 6 valence electrons, and the example on pg 109 is O2... which is equal to 12 valence electrons. For its configuration, we just have to remember to molecular or...

Past Quizzes (2)

For Quiz 2 2014 and 2015, can someone tell me which numbers we should be doing because I don't want to end up stressing myself over solving something I ended up not having to do?

Also, any good memorization tricks for periodic trends and the reasons behind them?

Nodes

In the course reader, it says that s-Orbitals have no nodal planes, but it also says that the 3s orbit has three nodes. Can someone explain this to me? Thanks!

Re: Orbitals [ENDORSED]

I don't think he said that the electrons are the orbitals. Maybe you misheard? From my HS chem class, I know the electrons are spinning inside the orbitals within a certain distance from the nucleus. Hence, the different levels we learned about today. Hope this cleared up a bit of confusion somehow :)
