strains

Is there a hierarchy within the strains? As in do we prefer to relieve a specific type of strain over the others? Or can we not make this kind of generalization?

Re: bond angle strain

Yes, bond angle strain is due to Carbon wanting to be sp3 hybridized (tetrahedral) which is 109.5 degrees. It's difficult for the bonds to conform in different degrees. Also, yes, the closer to 109.5, the less the strain.

Numbering

For numbering multiple constituents, do we always make the first constituent the lowest possible number even when sacrificing a smaller overall number total? Or are we going for the lowest sum total?

Re: Double or Triple bonds?

Double bonds are named first. Therefore choose the lower number for signifying a double bond.

Why are the average and instantaneous rate negative while you're calculating them? For my PLF worksheet, they're both negative.

bond enthalpies

How do multiple bonds factor into bond enthalpies? Would you have to multiply the standard bond enthalpies?

Reversible vs Irreversible

Can anyone give me examples of a reversible and an irreversible process that haven't been mentioned in class? I can't seem to properly wrap my head around the processes.

molecular form

During lecture, it was said that CH3COO- wants to always be in molecular form (CH3COOH). Why?

Bridging Bonds and Diatoms

It states on the course reader that halogens form bridging bonds. Is that the same as a coordinate covalent bond? Also about the covalent bond model, are diatoms the only bonds that have equally shared electrons? or is it the contrary?

Re: Atomic Radius

The size of an isolated atom can't be measured because we can't determine the exact location of the electrons that surround the nucleus. We can estimate the size of an atom, however, by assuming that the radius of an atom is half the distance between adjacent atoms in a solid. Remember how electrons...

Question 1.3 on hw

On question 3 it states that if frequency decreases the slope and electrical field decreases as well. I don't quite understand how amplitude and frequency relate with the electrical field. Can someone explain to how the electrical field corresponds to the amplitude of the wave?

frequencies [ENDORSED]

Would we have to know the frequencies/wavelengths of the different types of waves on the electromagnetic spectrum? or the frequencies of the colors of visible light? or would this be given to us if needed?
