For some reason I remember that an electron was taken from the 3d orbital before it was taken from 4s. Am I just imagining this, or are there acceptions?

How can you tell if the orbital has a lower energy level? Is it just something we have to memorize. I've heard Dr. Lavelle say this many times in lecture so is it just like something that's given?

For different anions, how would we determine what one is bigger/smaller especially when they're so close to each other on the periodic table?

I've seen this when writing out the hybridizations of certain bonds, is there any other instance where we would use them?

I also have a question pertaining to electron configuration. Sometimes the 4s orbital is taken out before the 3d when writing the electron config for ions. Is this always true that the s orbital will always be taken out first?

Is there like a trick or something to memorizing the wavelengths of each light wave? No matter how much I try to remember them, they just seem to slip my mind.

Hi, I was doing the homework and it said find the M3+ ion that is predicted to have the following ground state electron configuration. The problem was for "[Ar] 3d5" and it said that would be Fe3+ and I'm wondering why it isn't Mn3+ because I thought that was [Ar]3d5.
