Re: Standard enthalpies of formation

Okay, wait... so the things that can change the change of heat of the reaction include using the reverse reaction, and multiplying to change the coefficient?

Re: Study Group

I don't have the quiz until Friday, but I maybe can meet up tomorrow night to study. Do you know when you'll be free?

Re: Final Practice 2012

For some reason I remember that an electron was taken from the 3d orbital before it was taken from 4s. Am I just imagining this, or are there acceptions?

Finding the "Highest L value for the e-" [ENDORSED]

So I was in a review session today and had to leave a little early so I couldn't ask a question. So the question gave us different elements such as Ca, K, and F, and then we were supposed to find the n value, and the Highest L value for the e-. So when you organize the orbitals pertaining the the L ...

Re: Electron Configuration for Fe 3+

How can you tell if the orbital has a lower energy level? Is it just something we have to memorize. I've heard Dr. Lavelle say this many times in lecture so is it just like something that's given?

Re: Cation vs Anion Size [ENDORSED]

For different anions, how would we determine what one is bigger/smaller especially when they're so close to each other on the periodic table?

Re: Px py and pz

I've seen this when writing out the hybridizations of certain bonds, is there any other instance where we would use them?

Re: S, P, D, and F Orbitals [ENDORSED]

I also have a question pertaining to electron configuration. Sometimes the 4s orbital is taken out before the 3d when writing the electron config for ions. Is this always true that the s orbital will always be taken out first?

Re: What to do when a Energy is given in kJ*mol-1?

Is there like a trick or something to memorizing the wavelengths of each light wave? No matter how much I try to remember them, they just seem to slip my mind.

Can someone go over with me how to determine hybridization? I can kind of grasp the concept, but can someone help me solidify the idea. Please and thanks!

Electron Configuration CH3 Problem 11

Hi, I was doing the homework and it said find the M3+ ion that is predicted to have the following ground state electron configuration. The problem was for "[Ar] 3d5" and it said that would be Fe3+ and I'm wondering why it isn't Mn3+ because I thought that was [Ar]3d5.

Re: Finding Molar Mass in a Limiting Reagent Problem [ENDORSED]

So I was a little confused in my discussion because my TA multiplied the moles of each of the reactants by the mole ratios of the reactant:product, but the way I learned in high school was to multiply the moles of each reactant by the mole ratios of reactant:reactant to find out what you have vs wha...
