Re: Acidic Salts

Does this mean that the anions in salts do not affect the pH, only the positively charged cations, since they are the ones who seek to donate H+ ions?

Re: Adding salt and no shift in equilibrium?

Could you clarify on how adding the salt with the conjugate base would affect the Hydronium concentration? I understand that it increases the conjugate base concentration in order to buffer the solution. Also, do we factor in the hydronium concentration when we consider the equilibrium constant of t...

Re: Icebox

Doesn't initial moles only factor into the ICE chart by influencing the amount of change, x? For example, if a reactant started initially with three moles, the change would be -3x instead of simply -x.

Re: Kc vs Kp and all the other constants

When you say the reaction can be mixed for Kc, are you talking about certain reactants or products being in different phases, like aqueous? If so, then would that mean Kp and Kc would be different if not all the reactants and products were gases?

Re: Treating Systems that have Small Equilibrium Constants

I can't remember whether Lavelle mentioned 10^-4 as a cut off for being able to approximate, but in the video posted above, the lecturer does go over it and says when Kc is less than or equal to 10^-4, we can approximate x to be a very small number and use the approximation method.

Re: formal charge [ENDORSED]

My TA told me about a general guideline to follow when trying to figure out the best Lewis structures. When the molecule consists of atoms down and to the right of carbon, generally you would try to optimize the formal charges of each atom. For bonds between atoms down and to the left of boron, you ...

Re: Question Wording on Photoelectric Effect

I also have a question on the wording involved with photoelectric effect problems. For example, in the quiz problems, what would "energy dissipated" be considered as? Would this be considered as the excess energy lost after reaching the threshold energy? If so, does that mean I could also ...

Re: Increasing Intensity in Photoelectric Effect [ENDORSED]

So for further clarification, the intensity of the light has no effect until the energy of the photon reaches the work function? Also, I'm confused on what happens to the excess energy from the light.
