Re: Homework 8.27

For part b, I got -1061.4 J. I used the equation -nRTln(Vf/Vi). I set n=1, 8.314 as the gas constant R, 305 K as my temperature T, my final volume as 6.52 L, and my initial volume as 4.29 L. However, the answer at the back of the book is -326 J. What did I do wrong?

In the answer in the book, it states that part b, reversible expansion, does more work? Why is that so?

Units for Reaction Rate and the Rate Constant

In general, what are the units for the reaction rate and the rate constant? I mean individually of course as the they are different values.

My tendency to always sleep is directly related to the tendencies of the electrons inside of me, they're always trying to be in their lowest energy state.

Re: Quiz Topics

As a follow-up question, I wanted to ask whether we will receive some sort of quiz preparation. For Chem 14A, I know we had a quiz booklet with practice problems with solutions, as well as turn-in quizzes. We will have something like that this quarter?

So what about another example, like [Fe(ox)(CO)2(NH3)]H2O for instance. What would be the coordination number?

Lewis Structures Charges Always Balanced?

Is the ideal Lewis Structure always balanced? To be more specific, will the formal charge on every atom in a molecule always be zero? Or will the most ideal state of a molecule sometimes have atoms with positive or negative formal charges?

You should check the formal charge to ensure that the molecule is at its most ideal state.

Is the second ionization energy always more than the first for every atom? The second ionization energy is always stronger because there will be a greater ratio of protons to electrons. During the first ionization of an element there is an equal number of protons and electrons. However, during the ...

Re: Sproul Hall Chem14A Study Group

I live in Sproul Hall! The first thing that came to mind after the first lecture was that I need people to study with. So hopefully in the very near future we can come up with times to do homework together and study together.
